GENERAL
INFORMATIONS
Elettra
is an highly accurate quartz crystal microbalance
system developed for piezoelectric gravimetry
in the ng-pg regions, it has been designed
to work both as QCM for stand alone operation
and as EQCM (Electrochemical Quartz Crystal
Microbalance) when used with a Potentiostat.
If
used in conjunction with a potentiostat
/ galvanostat, actually the Elettra crystal
holder is designed so that only the front
crystal electrode is exposed to the liquid
under test, this electrode can be used as
a Working electrode by a potentiostat as
required in EQCM experiments, this feature
combined with an analog output, proportional
to the Df change, makes Elettra compatible
with virtually all potentiostats.
When
used as EQCM Elettra allow us to undergoing
charge transfer reactions in the redox equilibration
process. Quartz crystals can be pre-coated
with any thin film material like organic
polymers, ceramics, living cells and bacteria,
biomaterials and hydrogels performing a
real time mass measurement in process occurring
at or near crystal quartz surface or within
the thin film.
For
all these reasons Elettra is a valuable
research tool for many applications ranging
from electrochemistry to pure surface science,
measuring very small mass changes in both
liquid and gas phase environments, this
provides an unlimited potential for the
novel gas and biological sensors development.
DESCRIPTION
Elettra
is an extremely easy to use instrument,
having only four push buttons, one used
to clear the Df value while the others allow
to choose what data to show over the eight
digit display:
