ELECTROCHEMISTRY
Standard System
This schematic figure shows a classic setup
for an electrochemical measure system build
up by a potentiostat/galvanostat with three
electrodes: the working, the counter and
the reference, all of them dipped into the
solution to analyze.
Thanks
to this configuration it is possible to
perform several electrochemical measures
giving information about the redox reactions
linked to the electrical charge transfer.

System with EUREKA EQCM
Eureka
can be easily integrated into your electrochemical
measure system, in fact it is enough to
use Eureka as the container for the chemical
solution and to connect the cable of the
working electrode to the Eureka instrument.
With
this configuration the working electrode
is the quartz crystal electrode dipped into
the chemical solution.
Advantages
Eureka is easily and immediately integrated
in every electrochemical measure system,
it gives in real time an exact information
about the mass changes that take place on
the Working electrode during the electrochemical
process. During the experiment the user
will appreciate at the same time the information
about the redox reactions and the mass change

GASES ANALISYS
Eureka provides precious information about
the affinity reactions that take place in
gaseous phase, you need only to insert on
its base the measure cell for gases that
contains the crystal quartz coated with
a suitable sensible film to detect the substance
of interest.
The
gas flows through the measure cell, containing
the quartz crystal, thanks to two suitable
hydraulic plugs.
Eureka
provides precious information about the
mass variation due to the reaction affinity
between the sensible film coated on the
quartz crystal and the gas compound flowing
into the cell.

INVESTIGATION ABOUT
THE FILM DEPOSITION
Eureka can be easily employed to determinate
the mass of thin films stripped, grown or
layered on the quartz crystal surface.
Eureka can be easily integrated in a metal
evaporator system, that's enough to insert
the quartz crystal into the evaporator chamber
to obtain real time information about the
deposition process.
Another measure technique consist in the
determine the resonance frequency of the
quartz crystal before the deposition process,
then you can remove the quartz crystal from
the measure base to deposit a film on it,
finally measuring again the quartz resonance
frequency, the resonant frequency change
gives information about the film mass.

INVESTIGATION ABOUT THE LIGHT STIMULATION
Eureka can be easily employed to characterize
the interaction between the light stimulation
and the chemical bond energy.
After
having coated the quartz crystal with the
chemical compound to investigate, you can
start the light stimulation that breaks
the chemical bonds with a resulting mass
variation, Eureka provides real time careful
information about the mass change, if you
work with harmful compounds it is possible
to employ a suitable transparent measure
cell, built using transparent material as
Plexiglass.
With
this method of measure you can study several
other kinds of stimulations, beyond the
light one, that causes the breaking of chemical
bonds.

BIOLOGICAL
APPLICATIONS
Eureka can be easily employed to study the
interaction between biological molecules,
such as the antigen-antibody, the protein-protein
bounds, the complementary DNA/RNA strands
interactions, aptamer-ligand, enzyme-subtrate,
etc.
After
having coated the quartz crystal with the
"target" molecule to investigate,
Eureka provides real time careful information
about the mass change corresponded to the
molecular interaction.
This
system is applicable to many fields, such
as pathological diagnostic, both in specific
antibody search, and genetic mutations analysis,
toxic metabolites search in alimentary or
environmental samples, specific bacteria
presence search in limited atmospheres.

OTHER FIELDS OF APPLICATION
Eureka is a very flexible instrument because
it can be employed, in all the experiments
and applications, to determinate the mass
variation on the quartz crystal electrode.
