BioAge,
in collaboration with Earth Science Department
of the Florence University and with Italian
Civil Defence, has installed the Infrasonitus
network on the Etna volcano, at august 2006,
for monitoring and foreseeing its explosive
activity. The Etna system was composed by
4 node sensors, installed at 3000 meters
altitude, that transmitted data to the receiver
central station by means optical fibres.
All the data collected by the receiver are
sent via radio-modem, linked to the acquisition
centre, in Nicolosi, 16 km far from the
volcano summit. The processed data are used
to draw up a daily report about the volcano
activity, that is sent to the Italian Civil
Defence.
