INFRASONIC APPLICATIONS

Description

An Infrasonic Array functions as a sound antenna capable of detecting the amplitude and locating the origin of sound waves. The Geosonic array detects pressure waves that are inaudible to the human ear. A typical pressure wave is generated by an explosion or other physical phenomena (natural or artificial) that create air displacement. With the Geosonic array, countless phenomena can be detected, such as:

  • EXPLOSIONS (from artillery on a battlefield)
  • VOLCANIC ACTIVITY
  • ROCKET LAUNCH ORIGINS
  • NUCLEAR EXPLOSIONS
  • HELICOPTERS
  • AIRCRAFT
  • METEORITE FALLS
  • HURRICANES
  • TORNADOES
  • AVALANCHES
  • OROGRAPHIC WAVES
  • LIGHTNING
  • FIRES
  • TIDAL WAVES
  • EARTHQUAKES

Technical Details

Detection Principle Description
Typically, three or more monitoring stations are used to create an “antenna-like” behavior, capable of providing information on the sound wave’s propagation direction. Based on the geometric arrangement of the sensors in the array, it is possible to determine the origin of the infrasonic wave through triangulation based on time-of-flight and the correlation between signals provided by the array nodes. The localization accuracy increases with the number of nodes used in the array; with our system, effective arrays of up to 8 sensors can be achieved.

Examples of array configurations with different numbers of sensors.
